This project is a good way for the class to support something that is
important to them through their own graphic design. Personally this
project helped me portray my religion and issues in Israel. In January I went
to Israel for ten days on Birth Right, while I was there I became more aware of
the events in Israel and more knowledgeable about my religion. Also, recently
was the Holocaust anniversary, so supporting my homeland made sense in several
ways. Ever since I came back from Israel my love for the country continues to
grow, and if more people are educated about the country maybe they can love it
the way people in Israel do.
My poster shows Israeli soldiers from the Israeli Defense Force saluting
their country at a ceremony. At the top of the poster it reads, “If you stand
for nothing you will fall for nothing.” All these young men and women of Israel
fight for their country, they live lives many of us cant even imagine. There is
no choice for them they serve their country because its tradition and they love
it. These young adults are forced to be educated on what is going on in their
country and are brave enough to stand for it for about six years. When I spoke
to a soldier I met on my trip I asked him how he felt about the quote I used
and his response was perfect. He said, “ We stand for our country not because
we have to because we want to, how can anyone not want to stand for their home.”
Obviously I corrected the English a bit there.
The bottom of my poster says “Pray for peace.” This part of my poster
portrays my thoughts on supporting Israel with just a simple prayer, anyone can
do it. I really enjoyed having such an open-ended project and being able to see
how everyone wanted to portray things that are important to them.
